The Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) — The Center of Knowing and Interconnectednes
Color: Violet
Motto: I Know
Location: Crown of the Head
Element: Divine Consciousness
“Patience is the companion of wisdom.” — Saint Augustine
The seventh chakra, known as Sahasrara, is the sacred and final primary energy center in the body. As its name suggests, it is located at the crown of the head — the very top — like a halo of light resting gently above us.
Sahasrara translates to “thousand-petaled lotus.” And what a beautiful image that is. A lotus blooming endlessly upward. A flower of consciousness unfolding petal by petal into divine/universal awareness.
This chakra is considered the seat of consciousness, governing:
Thoughts
Wisdom
Connection to higher self
Relationship to the divine
Where the root chakra anchors us into the earth and our physical survival, the crown chakra opens us to the sky. It is the bridge between human experience and universal intelligence.
“Enlightenment is when a wave realizes it is the ocean.” — Thich Nhat Hanh
It whispers softly:
You are more than your body.
You are more than your story.
You are connected to everything.
Its sacred motto is simple and profound:
I Know.
Not intellectual knowing. Not memorized facts. But soul knowing.
What the Crown Chakra Governs
The crown chakra governs spiritual existence and our connection to:
The universe
Higher self
The realm of the divine
Its traits include:
Unity
Enlightenment
Serenity
Faith
Inner peace
Spiritual awareness
Ability to see beauty in everything
When this chakra is open and balanced, we feel connected — not separate. We experience a quiet understanding that we are part of something greater. There is less striving, less grasping, less fear.
We trust life.
We begin to see how everything — even the painful seasons — is part of our becoming.
Patience allows us to soften into divine timing. Wisdom blooms when we stop forcing and start listening.
The Journey from Root to Crown
Throughout this chakra series, we’ve traveled from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. From survival to creativity, from power to love, from expression to intuition.
Now we arrive at transcendence.
The root chakra deals with our physical reality — our safety, stability, and connection to earthly life. It grounds us in the here and now.
But the crown chakra expands us beyond the here and now.
It asks:
Who are you beyond your fears?
Who are you beyond your roles?
Who are you beyond this lifetime?
The lower chakras help us build a healthy human experience. The crown chakra helps us remember we are spiritual beings having that experience.
It is not about escaping life.
It is about understanding it.
Signs of a Balanced Crown Chakra
When Sahasrara is balanced, you may notice:
A deep sense of peace, even during challenges
Trust in divine timing
Feeling guided
Awareness of synchronicities
Compassion for all beings
Reduced attachment to ego-driven outcomes
Gratitude that arises naturally
There is a quiet steadiness in the nervous system.
You are not easily shaken by external chaos because your inner world is anchored in something eternal.
You feel unity.
You see beauty in unexpected places.
You can sit in silence and not feel alone.
Signs of Imbalance
When the crown chakra is underactive, we are likely to feel:
Apathetic, lonely, or passive
Energetically numb
Physically fatigued
Disconnected from others (emotionally or otherwise)
Lacking direction, making it hard to establish or manifest goals
There can be a sense of aimlessly drifting through life without purpose or connection.
When the crown chakra is overactive, there may be:
Desire for material goods that can never be satisfied
Greed, superficiality, or arrogance
Disconnect from humanity and the divine
Obsessive spirituality or ungroundedness
“The soul always knows what to do to heal itself. The challenge is to silence the mind.” — Caroline Myss
Instead of seeing the greatness or divine in others, we may focus on what divides us. This can come at the cost of our peaceful earthly presence. The root chakra brings us closer to the earth and our physical body. The crown chakra opens us to the limitless possibilities the world has to offer. When the crown is open, we are guided by something greater than ourselves — the universe or the divine. We see past self-limiting beliefs and extreme material desires.
It may take a person many years to open the crown chakra; some don’t experience it fully until right before death.
The Crown Chakra in Our Body
The seventh chakra rules over:
Upper part of the brain
Pineal gland
Cerebral cortex
Nervous system
Skin
These systems keep us alive. They operate automatically, keeping our bodies moving without conscious command — just like the universe guiding us.
When out of balance, symptoms may include:
Severe headaches
Chronic fatigue
Weak muscles
Memory problems
Neurological disorders
Nerve pain
Mental fog
Skin rashes
Insomnia or depression
Hair loss
The crown chakra reminds us that spiritual and physical bodies are deeply intertwined.
Practices to Open and Balance the Crown Chakra
This chakra thrives in stillness, reflection, and surrender.
1. Meditation
Sit comfortably.
Visualize the root/red chakra at the base of your spine. Ground and be thankful for your physical body.
Breathe slowly, inhaling expansion, exhaling release.

Developing a consistent meditation routine helps realign this/these chakra(s) over time.
2. Silence and Solo Time
Turn off music and devices.
~ Go for silent walks alone to clear your mind and connect with the earth.
~ Walking alone fosters grounding while opening awareness to subtle wisdom.
3. Intentions and Prayer
~ Speak to God, Source, Universe, or Divine Love — or simply listen.
~ Setting intentions from openness aligns your energy with higher guidance.
4. Gratitude and Connection
Gratitude softens the ego and opens perception.
Volunteer work or serving others awakens the crown chakra, shifting focus from “I” to “us”.
5. Patience
~ Awakening is not rushed; growth is not forced.
~ You are unfolding at the perfect pace.
Crown Chakra and Ego
The crown chakra teaches us to transcend ego, not destroy it.
Ego is necessary for human functioning. It gives us identity. But when ego dominates, we suffer.
Sahasrara gently reminds us:
You are not just your opinions.
You are not just your achievements.
You are not just your pain.
When open, we loosen our grip on being right. We become more curious and compassionate.
Remember, We shift from “me” to “we.”
Unity replaces division.
Unity Consciousness
One of the most profound traits of the crown chakra is unity.
Unity does not mean sameness; it means interconnectedness.
Like threads in a tapestry, each life is distinct yet woven together.
When this chakra awakens, we feel the truth of interconnectedness:
Compassion deepens
Judgment softens
We recognize ourselves in others
This is enlightenment in everyday life, not a retreat from it.
Crown Chakra Affirmations
I am connected to divine wisdom
I trust the unfolding of my life
I am guided and supported
I release attachment and embrace faith
I know
Let these words settle into your body — not to prove anything, but to remember.
The Crown Chakra in Daily Life
This chakra activates beyond meditation or ceremonies:
When you forgive
When you release control
When you sit in nature and feel awe
When you accept without resistance
When you choose love over fear
It is present in the mother rocking her child, the baker kneading dough, the dancer moving with surrender.
It is present when you soften.
You do not need to be perfect to access divine consciousness — only willing.
Integration: Grounding the Divine
The goal is not to escape the body.
The goal is to embody the divine within it.
True crown chakra balance:
Feet on the earth
Head in the heavens
Heart open
You can hold both. You can be human and holy. You can be practical and mystical.
Reflection Questions
Where in my life am I being asked to practice patience so that wisdom can unfold naturally?
In what ways can I soften my need for control and trust that I am guided by something greater?
A Closing Blessing
From root to crown, you are a living bridge between earth and sky.
You are grounded.
You are creative.
You are powerful.
You are loving.
You are expressive.
You are intuitive.
And at the very top — you know.
The thousand-petaled lotus is already within you.
It has always been there,
waiting patiently,
blooming in divine timing.
In unity, Bobbie
